How to use the date calculator

Pick one of three modes — “Days between”, “Add days”, or “D-day” — then fill in the dates the mode needs. Days between takes a start and end date. Add days takes a start date and a number of days (positive or negative). D-day takes a single target date and counts down (or up) from today. Results update as soon as both fields are filled in.

Three ways to work with dates

Days between answers “how many days is it from this date to that date?” Pick a start and an end date and the calculator subtracts one from the other. Going forward gives a positive number, going backward gives a negative one — so checking the order of your two dates matters if the sign looks off.

Add days answers “what date is N days from this date?” Enter a starting date and a number of days; a positive number moves forward, a negative number moves backward. This is the one to reach for when a deadline is phrased as “30 days from signing” or “10 business days” (though this tool counts calendar days, not business days).

D-day answers “how many days until this date?” Enter the target date and the calculator compares it to today. A date in the future shows as D-minus the day count (e.g., D-14), today itself shows as D-day, and a date already in the past shows as D-plus the day count.

Things to watch for

Whether a start day counts as “day 0” or “day 1” changes the answer by exactly one day, and different contracts, schools, and countries handle this differently. This calculator’s “days between” counts the number of calendar days you cross, so August 6 to August 7 is 1 day — if your use case expects the start date itself to count as day one, add one to the result.

Leap years add a real day to February, so any date range that crosses February 29 in a leap year will be one day longer than the same range in a non-leap year. The calculator handles this automatically, but it’s easy to be caught off guard when comparing year-over-year date ranges by hand.
